Training & Experience:

Combat has always been described as a dance, but truly it is a conversation full of assertions and rebuttals as loud as a brawl to the whispered intimacy of a back alley knife fight.

USFA fencing was a part of my life since before I was 7. I would watch my older brother at fencing practice 4-5 days a week and then tournaments on the weekends. I was an epee and sabre fencer as well as a 3 weapon USFA Referee well before graduating High School.

The discipline and precision of the sport has profoundly shaped my approach to fight choreography. The focus on timing, strategy, and fluidity in fencing translates directly into creating dynamic, believable combat scenes.

By incorporating the techniques and effectively communicating them to actors I craft choreography that feels authentic and visually compelling.

In the schrodinger's box of battle each combatant is both aggressor and defender as each move to both attack and defense.

Directing & Consulting

Just as dramaturgy comes from the Greek word dramatourgía, which means "action of a play", I love to share and demonstrate the heightened opportunities for nuance relating to the "action of a conflict"
